Eastern Tibet in 15 Days
An Eastern Tibet trip can last up to fifteen days and starts in Lhasa, the tourist center of Tibet. Here, you can visit the World Heritage Site Potala Palace, a dzong fortress that was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas. The fortress has over a thousand rooms, ten thousand shrines, and 200,000 statues. You can check out the Snow Lion statues that protect the entrance of the fortress.
You can drive to Nyingchi through the Mila Pass, from where you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Niyang River. In Nyingchi, you can visit Basum Lake, with its lovely landscape of clear, turquoise water backdropped with panoramic mountains; Tsozong Gongba Monastery, which is located on Tashi Island in Basum Lake; Bayi, which houses Buchu Monastery, Lamaling Monastery and a 2,500-year-old cypress tree; Lunang Forest in Pomi with its bushy dragon spruce trees; and Rawok Lake, where the scenery is splendid and surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
When to Visit Nyingchi Tibet
The best time to visit Eastern Tibet is in early April when peach blossoms fill the landscapes with a wonderful rosy pink colour. You can also visit between May and June to catch the blossoming rhododendrons. In autumn, between October and November, the scenery is filled with yellow, orange and gold. Whenever you visit, Eastern Tibet makes for a wonderful holiday destination.
