Mount Kailash And Manasarovar Tours

Tibet Mount Kailash Tour
Mount Kailash, elevated at a height of 6,638 meters above sea level in Tibet, is one of the world's most well known holy mountains. It is regarded as a holy mountain in Bon, Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. In Tibetan Buddhism, pilgrims carry out a ritual of circumambulating Mount Kailash on foot in a clockwise direction, as it is believed to bring good fortune. On your visit to Tibet, you can pay a visit to Mount Kailash to do a 3-day kora.

Four-Day Mount Kailash Tour

On your trip to Tibet, you can dedicate four days to a Mount Kailash tour. On the first day of your Mount Kailash tour, you can visit Darchen, a small town located at the foot of the mountain. Darchen is elevated at a height of 4,575 meters. It is the starting point of pilgrimages at Mount Kailash. There are guesthouses, restaurants, houses, stores and camping grounds. Here, you can carry out preparations for your three-day trek around Mount Kailash.
The following day is your first day of trekking around the holy mountain. First off, you can head to Sershung, a village from where your trek begins. During your trek around Mount Kailash, you will come across many prostrating pilgrims. You can also find Mani stones, which are stone plates inscribed with "Om mani padme hum" which is the six-syllabled mantra of Avalokiteshvara, known in Tibet as Chenrezig. This mantra is the most popular form of religious practice in Tibetan Buddhism. The trek ends at a guest house opposite Drirapuk Monastery.
The second day of trekking is the toughest of all three days. You will have to pass the Dolma-la Pass which stretches up to 6.4 kilometers, and up to a height of 5,630 meters above sea level. Next, you can head to Lhachu Valley floor, and then continue to Zutulpuk. In Zutulpuk, you can visit Zutulpuk Monastery.
The last day of trekking is headed back to Darchen. This step is relatively easy. After reaching Darchen, you can head to Chiu village. Here, you can visit Chiu Gompa, a monastery built on a hill close by Lake Manasarovar. You can also relax in a private wooden tub in Chiu village that holds water piped from the hot springs of Lake Manasarovar. Although the first day of the trek is accompanied by tent shops where you can buy soft drinks, the second day of the trek provides almost no shelter. A holy trek around the holy Mount Kailash is not an easy journey. However, this is what makes the trip rewarding. It helps you realise your own patience and perseverance.

When to Visit
It is recommended to visit Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar between May and October. Usually, Mount Kailash receives little rain. However, if you would like to see a rainbow over the mountain, you can visit between July and August where there are higher chances of rain. To see the kelsang flowers, Tibet's flower of happiness, it is best to visit in May.
