When you hear about Tibet, you often hear about its trekking and hiking experiences. However, that is not all that Tibet has to offer. Tibet also lets you cycle on the Roof of the World. Cyclists and mountain bikers can come to Tibet and enjoy cycling along some of its most beautiful and adventurous routes, and casual bikers can cycle along these very same trails with the company of Tibet's professional cyclists and support cars.
Famous Tibet Bike Tour Routes
Because you are going on bike rather than foot, cycling offers routes with longer distances and even more sceneries. Some of the most famous Tibet bike tour routes begin in Lhasa. These routes include 6 days from Lhasa to Ganden Monastery of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism; 8 days from Lhasa to Namtso Lake where you can view its expansive grassland, nomadic camps and yaks; 19 days from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp via Friendship Highway; and 22 days from Lhasa to Kathmandu that also includes the Everest Base Camp and Yamdrok Lake.
When to Cycling In Tibet
The best time to cycle in Tibet is during spring and autumn. These are May to early June, and September to late October respectively. It is not recommended to cycle during winter due to inaccessible snowy routes, and summer due to heavy rains that make roads slippery and dangerous.
